Alexander mistakes Ashley for Persephone, goddess of the dead, and kidnaps her, stranding her in his own time. Join Ashley on her hilarious, bumpy journey into the past as she discovers where her place in history truly is…

Review :

I’ve always been interested in history so I immediately thought ‘The Road To Alexander’ would be my cup of tea and in a manner it was, only there’s a bit of a ‘but’ part too I’m afraid.
I really thought I would be reading a time-traveling book, but it read more as a historical romance novel bizarrely.
Yes, we do start in a sort of present where time-travel is possible, but that’s barely touched (and stays barely touched throughout) before we already meet the great Alexander.
Ashley stands before him and becomes a sort of star-struck teenager, which she tells him almost directly, – I love you since whenever -, and gets in bed with him.
So far I can say ‘okay’ she only has a couple of hours with him, make the most of it girl 😋, but after she realizes she’s there to stay they keep on having unprotected sex.
How’s that not altering the past? (We all know what the consequences can be after all 😉.)
There’s a lot of times too where she’s telling herself she can’t say or do stuff because she can’t alter the past and therefore the present, but, in my opinion, she does do/say things!
I also find her rather unknowingly about the history.
I mean as a time-traveler to a certain time period you should have learned everything there is to know or have a certain knowledge, no?
I guess I don’t get Ashley, with her nosebleeds, faintings and whatnots, period.
She just makes the story less historical in a way and therefore it’s less than what I hoped for I’m afraid.
A pity, because on the other hand I did like it very much.
I’ve read it in less than 2 days!!! (Just saying.)
The writing itself is overall more than okay, maybe a tad dumbed down and too modern for the time frame, but that’s nitpicking as it kept me hooked and reading at a great pace.
Furthermore did the author a huge amount of research into the history. (Take that, Ashley! 😋)
You can tell that by how vividly she paints the scenes, the settings,… .
For me that’s probably the most alluring about this book as it gives you a kind of factual journey into the ancient world of Alexander.
It somehow made it all worth my while and makes me want to give the next installment definitely another go sometime.
