Q&A:

Hi

First of all thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions, I really appreciate it. Here we go! 🙂

Can you, for those who don’t know you already, tell something about yourself and how you became an author?
Sure! I’ve always loved to write and tell stories. When I decided to write my first book I’d been freelancing for a few years. I was lucky enough to sign on with a publisher a year after writing my first book.

Which books did/do you love to read as a child/now as a grown-up?
My favourite book to still read is Little Women, and the Diary of Anne Frank.

Is there a writer whose brain you would love to pick for advice? Who would that be and why?
Nora Roberts and Anne Rice. I’ve had the pleasure of conversing with Miss Rice, she even shared one of my blog posts a few years back. A very sweet and talented lady. Both authors are successful and still write amazing novels. I’d love to have coffee with them and ask them how they get their ideas and what their writing process entails.

If you could, which fictional character (from your own book(s) or someone else’s) would you like to invite for tea and why?
There are so many! I’d love to meet a few of my characters, Otakatay and Pril from the Branded Trilogy, but I’d also love to have met Anne Frank, I know she isn’t fictional, but I feel a distinct connection with her and I really would love to just give her a hug.

Do you have some rituals or habits whilst writing?
Oh yes! Music on, candle burning, foot heater on low and coffee…sometimes whiskey. 🙂

Where do you come up with your idea(s)? Do people in your life need to be worried? 😉
Ha ha ha!! I will never tell! No, just kidding. My ideas are spinning around in my head all of the time. I take small bits from everything and place them into my stories.

Are you a plotter or do you go with the flow, as a pantser?
I am both. If the story is struggling to come out I have to stop and plot…bullet point list of things I need to get to. However, most times I am a panster…and I love it.

Can you give novice writers some tips (do’s/don’ts)?
Do write all the time. Don’t stop learning. Do get an editor. Don’t hire a free editor. Do push yourself. Don’t take criticism personally. Do know your worth. Don’t give up.

What are your future plans as an author?
I’m editing a new novel and half way through the first book of a western series. I hope to have them both out by December.

Last, but not least : Can you give my readers one teaser from your book, which is featured here on my blog, please?
Defeated, blind, isolated and alone, can Ivy find her independence after being captured and taken far from home?

Isn’t that a great reason to pick up this book and to find out more?!
Thanks once again for this lovely interview, Kat Flannery.
Thank you so much for having me on your blog today!
