– ‘The Magic of Wor(l)ds’ blog is a hobby, reviews and other bookish stuff on this site are done for free. –

Today I’m not on a blogtour, but doing my own interview with Kelly-Marie Pollock, author of ‘Hindra’s Heroine’, to promote her book!
Before I let you read my Q&As, I’ll first post some ‘basic’ information.

About the Author :

FB_IMG_1628249205217Writing has always been a passion of mine. A coping mechanism if you like. When I was a child I’d conjure up elaborate worlds inside my head and happily get lost within them for hours, roaming the halls and alleyways within. Now I create worlds in black and white, for all of you to immerse yourselves in. I’m a Poetry fanatic and when I’m not busy sending Nova into War or breaking her heart, I can often be found putting pen to pad and writing poetic verses. I’m a fan of a good horror film and a massive geek who’s patiently awaiting the Zombie uprising.

Synopsis :

CYMERA_20210806_122554Holed up on an off-world island in the middle of the Irish sea, Nova and her allies are nursing their wounds after the battle at Mount Divinity left Nova mortal once again. They’ve all but given up on ever finding their way off the Island when Ruth, the wayward witch, wakes up screaming, visions assaulting her already fragile mind. With the entity Ultio now puppeteering her limbs, Ruth’s magics lead them back to London, back to where nova’s story first began. Odyssey.
Join Nova, Ruth, Chaplin, and Noah as they group together with a whole host of new and familiar characters to infiltrate Hindra and take back what’s theirs.
Together, they must face the darkness lingering within and battle their way back to the light, but for one of their number, that battle may well be futile.
For she is the slaughter, world her lamb.

Q&A :

First of all thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions, I really appreciate it. Here we go! 🙂

Can you, for those who don’t know you already, tell something about yourself and how you became an author?
Thanks for having me. Hi, My name is Kelly-Marie and I’m a mum of 4. I’ve wanted to be an author for as long as I can remember, indact some of my fondest memories from my childhood are of me folding wads of paper in half to make a book and write my own whimsical tales of magical minds and faraway places. My late aunt Julie always told me to follow my dreams, so in 2019 that’s exactly what I did.

Which books did/do you love to read as a child/now as a grown-up?
Oh my, I was an avid reader of Enid Blyton as a child, my favourite collection of hers being The Faraway Tree stories. As I grew older I fell in love with the Harry Potter series and anything by Jacqueline Wilson and Eoin Colfer, the Artemis Fowl books were brilliant. Now as an adult I’m very fond of The Newsflesh series by the very talented Mira Grant, The Mara Dyer trilogy by Michelle Hodkin and of course The Hunger Games books by Suzanne Collins. Every year without fail I return to the world of Harry Potter and find comfort in Hogwarts.

Is there a writer whose brain you would love to pick for advice? Who would that be and why?
Good question, I’d love to have a chat with Michelle Hodkin, the world of Mara Dyer is fascinating to me.

If you could, which fictional character (from your own book(s) or someone else’s) would you like to invite for tea and why?
Oh wow, I’d absolutely love to have Ruth and Chaplin from my books round for a cup of tea, their love/hate banter would be brilliant.

Do you have some rituals or habits whilst writing?
Never write on an empty stomach! Always have chocolate to hand.

Where do you come up with your idea(s)? Do people in your life need to be worried? 😉
Honestly, I don’t know 😂 .
My characters all have a small part of me in them, especially Nova. Infact the mania she experiences in my debut book ‘Cherry Nova’ was inspired by my own manic episodes, I have Bipolar disorder and in a way, writing these books and getting to the core of each character has been cathartic and therapeutic.

Are you a plotter or do you go with the flow, as a pantser?
I start off with a vague plot line and always veer off course, I always say these books end up writing themselves.

Can you give novice writers some tips (do’s/don’ts)?
Don’t ever put yourself down or think that your writing isn’t good enough, because it is. Try and make your characters as real as possible and most importantly just have fun, don’t stress, just let your writing take you on a fun journey.

What are your futureplans as an author?
I’ve got one final book to complete in Nova’s arc, then two spinoff books planned. But I’d also like to step away from the adult fantasy genre and pen an old school horror/thriller!

Last, but not least : Can you give my readers one teaser from your book, which is featured here on my blog, please?
Just when you think I can’t break your heart any further…I do.
Other than that, my lips are sealed.

Isn’t that a great reason to pick up this book and to find out more?!
Thanks once again for this lovely interview, Kelly-Marie Pollock.
