Synopsis :

SWTitle: Something Wicked (University of Morgana: Academy of Enchantments and Witchcraft #1)
Genres: Adult, Paranormal, Reverse Harem, Romance

If she could make it through her first semester without killing anyone … that’d be great.
San Francisco Bay Coven has been torn apart and no one feels this more than Mika Marshall. Kenzie Kavanagh exposed her father and brother’s betrayal.
So Mika is starting at the University of Morgana a semester late and praying to the Fates that she’ll be able to catch up and graduate with her class. But as a witch with an undeclared specialty she’s trying not to bring too much attention to herself.
Because Mika has a secret and if she doesn’t learn to control her powers, people will die.

**This is a slow burn reverse harem academy series. All paranormal books by Emma Dean exist in the same world – the Council of Paranormals.

Excerpt :

Mika leaned against one of the tables in the massive greenhouse and watched as students filtered in. There weren’t many taking Advanced Poisons but the ones who were, were fascinating.
The first two classes of the day had gone pretty well. Audrey had both Advanced Latin and Shifter Studies with her on Mondays and Wednesdays. But she was alone in her Poisons class.
The other witch was great at diverting attention away from Mika since she already knew so many people with as outgoing as she was. They were fairly normal first days – a general reviewing of the schedule and then getting right into it. None of the classes Mika was taking were easy.
But she could already tell this class was going to be different.
It was quiet in the conservatory with the black metal scrollwork holding the glass in place. The massive greenhouse was nearly an entire wing of the university and three stories tall. Mika knew this was going to be one of her favorite places.
The humidity was suffocating in her coveralls. But handling these kinds of plants required her to take safety measures. It was something she’d been taught from the moment she’d been able to walk. Wear clothes that could be washed and covered every inch of skin.
Mika had her black coveralls that she’d brought from home on over her regular clothes, boots that sealed the coveralls and didn’t allow anything to touch her skin, special gloves that could be washed but protected her from any oils that might be secreted from the plants. A scarf around her neck would cover her nose and mouth if they had to do any cutting or crushing – it was generally a good idea, even just smelling some poisonous plants could make someone faint.
Everything else was in the locker rooms specifically set up for herbology students. Cream that protected skin was everywhere, both magical and non. This portion of the greenhouse was under lock and key; only students with a pass or teachers could access these plants.
She surveyed the other students and dismissed them immediately. All except one.
Honestly, she was surprised to see a male witch in this class. Most never made it to Advanced Poisons. It wasn’t really their thing. But this one – he was tall and mysterious. So tall he would probably tower about a foot over her.
Mika had a weakness for tall guys.
His gorgeous brown hair was messy and slightly curled, falling in his face just a little. The green in his light-bluish green eyes seemed magnified with all the plants around him. Mika couldn’t help but notice how muscular his arms were with the way his coveralls hung from his waist, showing off his tank top.
Despite her vow to avoid men and any potential boyfriends throughout her university career, Mika’s heart started beating just a little bit faster. When he looked up, his gaze went right to her like he knew she’d been watching him, her stomach flipped and Mika had to look away.
She glanced at her watch. Only two more minutes and the class would start.
Professor Hayes waltzed in a minute later in custom coveralls that looked a lot like Mika’s just in a faded green instead. The professor had her long blonde hair up in a severe bun and she wore glasses. There would be no room for bullshit with her.
Mika looked up at the glass ceiling as the silvery light filtering in seemed to change somehow. She blinked and realized it was snowing. It had been a long time since she’d been around snow, and the way it fell in whispers on the glass added to the magic of the conservatory.
“Welcome class. The reason you are here is because you’ve either met the pre-requisites or you’ve tested into this class. Congratulations. Most never make it this far.” Professor Hayes had a hard gleam in her eye as she studied each of them.
It was like she was assessing who was going to mess up and potentially kill themselves, or perhaps someone else.
“People have died in this class. Murderers have used what is learned here. I guarantee you’ll end up with some kind of burn at the very least. So if you want to make it out alive you listen to me and follow the rules. Do you understand?”
Mika nodded, remembering a similar conversation her mother had had with her when she was about five and touched a plant that had left a burn mark for weeks. “Be smart, Mika,” she’d said. “If you’re not smart, you’ll die.”
It was advice she’d taken to heart and applied to her entire life. Mika had made sure she was smart. Even if she had to study twice as hard as everyone else. She wasn’t going to make a stupid mistake and die.
Not when it was so easy to end up dead.
“Any questions?”
“Professor Hayes?” some quiet girl with black hair asked. “Will there be opportunities for extra credit?”
Mika couldn’t stop herself from rolling her eyes. Couldn’t they get on with this already?
“We’ll see,” the professor said, eyeing the girl like she’d probably be the first to head to the infirmary. “Now I’m going to pair you up, and you will be partners for the rest of the semester. We’re going to start with every day poisonous plants and flowers and their uses.”
Professor Hayes took her phone out of her pocket and read off names. Mika felt that same flutter in her stomach when her name was called and the professor pointed to the guy who had caught her attention. “Mika Marshall, you’re with Ethan Ellington.”
She didn’t even have the opportunity to be shocked that the professor had pronounced her name correctly. Ethan was already headed toward her and the way he looked at her…it was almost a glare but not quite.
Somehow it made him even more attractive.
He didn’t say anything as he jerked his chin toward one of the work tables. Mika followed after him and wondered what his deal was. Maybe he was annoyed she was a freshman. This was a higher level class after all. Freshmen weren’t usually allowed.
But they’d made an exception for her of course – she was a Marshall with an affinity for poison.
“Now, we’re going to start with Morning Glory. It’s toxic, but it doesn’t usually kill. The fascinating thing about the Morning Glory is it’s one of those flowers that can cause hallucinations. The seeds contain a chemical similar to that of LSD.” The professor walked around the greenhouse, setting pots of the flower on each worktable.
Mika sat on the stool and ignored Ethan next to her as best as she could. She forced herself to pay attention to the professor, even though this was hardly advanced.
Hopefully they’d get into more dangerous plants as the semester went on.
“You don’t need to wear gloves for these, but I advise you scrub down after every class. Now,” Professor Hayes snapped, whipping around to study Mika.
What she’d done to gain her attention she had no idea.
“Morning glory is used in a few different types of spells and potions. The most popular is an infusion, but philtres are also common. Ms. Marshall, name one for me.”
She must have seen Mika’s test scores. Professor Hayes was one of the more strict professors or so Mika had heard, but she was also one of the best. Had she known she’d be instantly singled out…maybe she would have avoided this class.
“Obfusca,” she murmured. “It makes a person confused if made with sea water. If the potion is made with river water it can remove memories. Officially, it is not a curse, but it’s also not a healing potion.”
The professor narrowed her eyes and then smiled. “I’m pleased to see you’re just as good as your test results indicated. Welcome to Morgana, Ms. Marshall.”
Too many people were looking at her.
Mika dropped her gaze to the flower and its deep purple petals. Ethan chose just then to lean in closer to her. Instantly she stiffened as the scent of his cologne reached her nose.
“Who are you here to kill?” he whispered.
What?
Her eyes snapped to his and there was laughter there, like this was some hilarious joke. “Excuse me?”
“Normal people don’t take Advanced Poisons in their first semester.” Ethan pulled out a sketchbook and started drawing the morning glory. “Unless it’s your specialty I guess.”
“It’s not.” Mika couldn’t believe how green his eyes looked in this light, and how even in the dead of winter his skin was still slightly tanned. “But it’s one of the few things I’m good at.”
Ethan smiled at that, glancing at her as he drew. “I’m an Herbology major. Is the Marshall Greenhouse in San Francisco as amazing as I hear?”
So he did know who she was. Ugh, Mika wished she could just be a normal witch for once. But high society witches all knew each other. Which meant Ethan wasn’t from the West Coast. So who was he?
Ellington wasn’t a familiar clan name either.
Why herbology?
“So who are you here to kill?” she asked, plucking one of the flowers as instructed so she could separate the parts.
“I just like plants. There’s something so beautiful in something that has such variance. Some are deadly and some can save you. Only knowledge can tell you which one.” Ethan smiled at her then and there was something about the way his hair fell into his eyes.
Mika wanted to reach out and brush it back, maybe trace those glorious eyebrows, and his unfairly long eyelashes.
Fuck.
This wasn’t why she was here.
She went back to placing the petals in one bowl and the seeds in another. Two different potions – one to take something away, and one to give something back. There was beauty in the duality, she’d give Ethan that.
His poetic ass was going to be the death of her if she didn’t pay attention.
The class was two hours long and they went through the basic poisonous flowers, how to handle them, what they could be used for, and how one would prepare them as ingredients for future use. Mika went through the motions, doing her best to ignore Ethan next to her.
It was all basic stuff she knew anyway. Her mother had taught her all this and more by the time she was ten. Their greenhouse had a poison garden just like this one did. It rivaled some of the greats around the world.
“Don’t worry, we’re supposed to learn how to grow and tend nightshade and hemlock this semester,” Ethan said with a little smirk. “Morning glory is pretty tame in comparison.”
How boring. Mika was hoping they’d get to work with the Manchineel tree, fondly nicknamed the ‘little apple of death.’ It was one of the few her mother hadn’t let her near since it could blister skin in seconds.
Snakeroot and oleander were also some of her favorites, but Mika had been hoping for something truly exotic.
“I heard someone is trying to crossbreed poisons,” Ethan murmured. “Would that be more interesting for you?”
Mika whipped her gaze to his and narrowed her eyes. “You think I’m some kind of black widow?”
“I think you like dangerous things.” Ethan didn’t blink as he held her gaze. “Am I wrong?”
She didn’t say anything to that. They didn’t even know each other. Mika owed him no explanation.
But he wasn’t wrong.

To promote this book I have some ‘basic’ information, a Q&A and a giveaway for you.

About the Author :

Lasasha FlameI’m a young author from Chicago, I’m hoping to bring some new heat and sizzle to the romance genre.
My favorite genres are paranormal and dark romance. I love reading a good book but I’m so busy in life that I only get to enjoy audio books. It’s the only way I can get lost in a good book nowadays. And you know what? I half prefer an audio book over print any day! I have a long standing membership at Audible.com and I plan to publish audio books for busy bookworms like myself! Yay!
My love of writing started when a friend of mine encouraged me to write a short story and just see what happens. Turns out I had a knack for writing because everyone loved my short stories. From then on I have worked on improving my craft. Growing  from flash fictions to novellas. I am really looking forward to sharing all the twisty goodness I have planned!
Thank you & Much love and Sizzle!

Q&A :

Thank you for featuring my dark fantasy short story Birth of the Sand Viper: Origins of Jafar!
I had a lot of fun writing this book because it introduces you to a new world of immortals! Before we get behind the scenes, let me tell you a little about myself, LaSasha Flame!

Facts about LaSasha:

What is something unique about LaSasha?
I am not sure you can call this unique but I am a very creative person. I have a passion for baking and cooking along with writing, but I am also talented at painting and graphic design. I designed the covers for this series and I will be designing the covers for all my future books as well. Creating is in my blood! lol

What are some of LaSasha’s pet peeves?
My biggest pet peeve is when someone has already made up their mind about me, my thoughts, my feelings, my wants and instead of actually taking a moment to hear me out about those things, they insist on holding me to things I never said, thought, or wanted. It makes me feel small but not in a low self esteem way, more of an invisible way. No matter how much I scream or cry nobody sees me. We are so small in this vast universe so there is no reason to make another feel insufficient.

Where was LaSasha born/grew up?
I was born in Chicago but I grew up traveling the world. It wasn’t until high school that my family settled down in a small town south of Chicago.

Who is LaSasha’s hero and why?
In the writing world it has to be Kressely Cole and Larissa Ione. They have created amazing paranormal romance series and I want to be just like them when I grow up. lol

What is LaSasha passionate about these days?
Creating my own paranormal romance series. The Dark Immortal Flames Series is my baby that I can’t wait to share with the world! Birth of the Sand Viper takes place in the same multiverse as the main series.

What does LaSasha do to unwind and relax?
Believe it or not writing does help me to unwind and relax. I know it what I do for a living but writing is the fun part. It’s marketing that drive me nuts. lol

When did LaSasha first consider herself a writer?
Breaking all the Rules was a quick and rough 1.5k flash fiction that I published with a friend in emagazine Exposed. It wasn’t much but when it was published, I felt like a writer.

Does LaSasha have a favorite movie?
I don’t have just one favorite movie. I enjoy tons of movies regularly but recently I watched Love and Other Drugs with Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway and it was so freaking good! Love a good romance!

Which of her novels can LaSasha imagine made into a movie?
I think Power and Lust would make a good chick flick. It’s possible the Breaking Rules Series could be a movie too, but it’s so graphic I doubt the cinema could do it any justice.

What literary pilgrimages has LaSasha gone on?
I am still on my pilgrimage to be honest. I started off in the most unusual way in writing. While most authors went to a school for writing, but I started in taboo smut. People would hire me to write their deepest darkest sexual desires into stories for them to read and pleasure themselves. Most … well all of it was taboo sexual desires. I never kept any of the work as I didn’t have permission to share it. Part of getting these clients was them knowing that I would never share their kink. It helped me to improve my writing skills but beside that it left me feeling unfulfilled. They weren my stories, and I wanted something of my own beyond just sex. My first story with a real plot and real characters was Power and Lust. It took me some years, but I got it finished and published. Now I am working towards my ultimate goal which is to be a paranormal dark romance writer. Every day, every word is another step closer to that goal.

As a writer, what would LaSasha choose as her mascot/avatar/spirit animal?
The Flames of course!

What kind of research does LaSasha do before she begins writing a book?
I do some googling but the small details that make the story life like comes from me interviewing hundreds of people. You learn things from conversing that you just can’t get from the internet.

Does LaSasha see writing as a career?
It’s more of a passion but it has become a business more than a career.

Does LaSasha read herself and if so what is her favorite genre?
Yes, I do read but only audio books! I love paranormal romance.

Does LaSasha prefer to write in silence or with noise? Why?
I prefer music because it drowns out the noise of the world and allows me to focus.

Does LaSasha write one book at a time or Does LaSasha have several going at a time?
I have multiple books going because sometimes ideas come to me and need to write down so I Can use it later when it’s time for that book to get the majority of my attention.

Pen or typewriter or computer?
Computer with Google docs to automatically backup all of my writing and I Can add as I go anywhere in the world.

Advice LaSasha would give new authors?
Don’t get into writing to make money. Don’t publish to get a sale. If you want your stories to be loved then build a readership. A writing career is like starting a business and the most successful ones are the ones who connect with their customers. So build a readership and connect with the reader. The sales will follow from a growing readership but a readership does not follow a sale.

What is LaSasha’s writing process?
I jot down all my ideas and thoughts for the story and then I do an outline organizing those ideas into a plot point. Then I free write from plot point to plot point. I know where I am going but the journey to get there is always a surprise.

Does LaSasha try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?
Neither. I just write the story I want to tell.

What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?
I have never been inside the head of a man so his point of view doesn’t just flow from me. I worry I am making him a woman pretending to be male. lol

Does LaSasha believe in writer’s block?
Honestly no I do not. Writer’s block happens when you didn’t plan your story idea well enough to know where you are going even if you decide to take the scenic route.

Facts about the Book:

What inspired LaSasha to write this book?
Originally I was apart of an anthology which was a collection of fairytales retold with a creative twist. We had to write the fairytale heroes as villains and the villains as heroes! I had already planned to do my aladdin retelling so I thought this was a perfect opportunity to make you love the villain as much as I do! *evil laugh*

What can we expect from LaSasha in the future?
I am working on a 13 book paranormal fantasy romance series called Dark Immortal Flames and one of the books will be my reimagined twist on Aladdin from Jafar’s point of view. The book is called Arabian Nights in Bondage. So juicy!

Where did LaSasha come up with the names in the story?
I wanted them to have middle eastern names that were easy for Americans to say.

What did LaSasha enjoy most about writing this book?
Developing the jinn people. This book scratches the surface but in Jafar’s book in the main series coming soon you will learn so much more about the jinn.

Anything specific LaSasha want to tell her readers?
This is just the tip of the iceberg! Get updates from me LaSasha on new releases and giveaways plus exclusive sneak peeks of the Dark Immortal Flames Series by signing up here: https://www.subscribepage.com/darkimmortalflame.

How did LaSasha come up with name of this book?
Easy it’s the birth of a villian that is as deadly as the viper born in the sand.

Convince us why LaSasha feels her books are a must read.
I don’t have to convince you. I think you are already seduced by them. Enjoy the sizzle!

Has LaSasha written any other books that are not published?

Excerpt :

“It’s gorgeous,” she says, but for the first time, my eyes aren’t on the water. They’re drawn to her and the way the moon above casts a halo of light around part of her. The other part still hid in the shadows of the night and trees.
“It is,” I say, and when she looks at me, she knows I’m referring to her and not the scene in front of us.
She laughs and shakes her head, before turning to face me, her arms crossed over her chest as she leans back against the tree trunk. “Does that actually work?” I raise my eyebrows in question. “This,” she replies, waving her hands around. “Bringing a girl out here, the moonlight, the water, the cheesy line while you stare at her. Is this your game, Brody?”
She has no idea what she’s talking about. I step forward, eliminating the space between us and notice the small hitch in her breathing. “This isn’t a game. I don’t play games,” I tell her in a husky whisper, as the floral scent she wears hits my nose. Jude rolls her eyes like she doesn’t believe me, but the blush on her cheeks tells me otherwise. Another step toward her. “You don’t believe me?”
“Brody, I grew up with the boys. I know how you all work. I’m not some dumb girl that falls for sweet words whispered under the moonlight.”
One step and I’m directly in front of her. “I never thought you were that girl.” Shaking my head I tell her, “You’re different from every girl I’ve ever met Jude. That’s why I brought you here. I’ve never brought anyone here…not even my brothers. I don’t play games because I don’t need to. I see no sense in them and let’s be honest, we both know my reputation and that I don’t need to play games to get what I want– but you’re different.” I reach out and trace her jaw bone and notice another hitch of breath. “I know what I want. What do you want, Jude?”
She bites down on her bottom lip for a moment, but that moment feels like forever. The crickets sing in the background along with the thunder rolling in the distance. The breeze dances in the air. It’s just like the movies where everything is in slow motion and it’s exciting and torturous, all at the same time. I’m waiting for her to make a move and finally, ever so slowly, she reaches her hands out and fists them into my shirt, pulling me into her. I lean down and hover just above her lips, my entire body humming with anticipation. Just when I think she’s not going to make a move and I’m about to give in, she closes the space between us.
Her lips on mine, the slight citrus taste of Mountain Dew lingers on her tongue, her hands moving up my chest to wrap around my neck; all of it is intoxicating and addicting and completely terrifying.

Q&A :

Love the title Witches Protection Program – How did you come up with it?
The idea of a secret government agency that protects witches was born out of the one place I do all my thinking. The bathroom. I was in my bathroom one lovely evening in the fall of 2014 and gazed at my wife’s pile of trashy magazines. Since I’m more inclined to read a screenplay or novel while doing my duty, I figured I could take a break and peek through some entertainment pop culture. I flipped the pages and noticed a picture called Wetless Protection Program in some script font above Neil Patrick Harris’s head. I think it was NPH. But in my eyes, I read it as Witches Protection Program and said, what a great title. I then realized I goofed and it said Wetless, not Witches. What a silly idea. A government agency that protects witches. I turned the page to some story about Brangelina or whatever, and my eyes popped open. I turned the page back to Wetless. That’s it. I got my next book idea. Witches Protection Program. I began creating the story that night and within a week of that fortuitous encounter in my master bathroom, I had a full beat sheet following the adventure of Wes Rockville and Morgan Pendragon.

Wes, the protagonist is dyslectic, why did you make that part of his character?
Perfect heroes are rarely heroes. Heroes must have flaws, tics, issues, that they must overcome. That’s what life is all about. We are all heroes and have to overcome the obstacles in life. I wanted people to identify with Wes and his struggles because we all have them. It really is that simple. If I would have made Wes into this beefy hunk that could solve a riddle by snapping his fingers, the readers wouldn’t identify with that. Wes has to have real human issues, and not being able to read is one of them.

Does Morgan Pendragon embrace her witch skills?
Well, you’d have to read the book to find out, but the short answer is YES.

Both the frog and gummy bat scene were hysterical if not a little mocking of magic. Why did you write them that way?
I have a wicked sense of humor and I wanted to incorporate everyday items that readers are familiar with (i.e. frogs, gummy spiders…etc…). I wanted readers to see the gummy worms come to life in their minds, to see Wes and Morgan shrink down to frogs to break into the Pendragon labs in Jersey. I wanted the readers to feel that if Wes and Morgan can go through this, they could as well. I didn’t want the magic to feel cheesy or fake. So I used real things to make it feel real to the readers.

If it was made into a movie, who do you see playing the main roles?
Easy. Channing Tatum as Wes. Christoph Waltz as Alastair. Zendaya as Morgan. Charlize Theron, Cate Blanchett, or Halle Berry (whoever is available) as Bernadette. Emma Stone as Scarlett. They can reach out to my film agent with their availability.

You built a world where witches exist alongside everyday people. Do you see this as even possible?
Absolutely! I drive around NYC frequently and I’m always wondering if the woman who just passed my car was a witch, or if that dude in a business suit is a warlock (hint, hint at the WPP sequel). That happens more times than you can imagine.

Everyone loves the character, Junie. What made her so enjoyable?
Junie is a mish-mash of my great-aunt Junie, and my aunt Marilyn. The real Junie has since passed, but my aunt Marilyn is a character in real life. She is gruff, cool, funny as hell, and will tell you exactly how she feels. And if you go to her house, she’ll cook you something right off the stove (just like Junie in WPP). I feel safe with Marilyn, who is a Bronx native and she’ll tell ya about it.

Where do you find the characters you write about? Are they pure invention?
Characters speak to me. Most characters have a piece of me in them. But others are actors/actresses in my head or people I’ve known my entire life. For example, I’m no cop. I can’t shoot anything if I tried, but Wes is. And he is based on this friend of mine who is an NYC Police Officer. I incorporated Channing Tatum, and voila, Wes is born. Alastair was an amalgamation of Christoph Waltz in Django Unchained and my own father. A stern, yet sympathetic father figure who will stop at nothing to protect his family, and what is right in this world. All my characters are mishmashes.

The book was originally published under the author Micheal Phillip Cash, your pen name. Can you give us the back story?
It’s a pretty incredible story that I have a hard time believing. I wrote Monsterland and self-published it in 2015. My mom is my publicity manager and she blitzed the bloggers with my book. That fall I was reading a book called Selling a Screenplay by Syd Field. In the book, there was an entertainment attorney named Susan Grode who seemed very knowledgeable about the publishing and film industry. I told myself, when I receive my first contract, I’m going to reach out to her to see if she could help me. About two months later, I received a post on Facebook from an agent in London who asked to represent me. I said sure and asked him to send me a contract. I emailed Susan and introduced myself and mentioned that I had someone who wanted to rep me and I was hoping she could read this contract. She told me before I sign with this London agent, why don’t I meet her friend in Brooklyn, an agent named Nick Mullendore with Vertical Ink Literary Agency. I met Nick for lunch and he signed me that day as his client. That evening, Susan brought me on as her client as well. Nick began trying to sell my book Monsterland to the big publishers and, it was rejected. Throughout his attempts of selling, he had a call with a film agent and he was pitching her a romance novel. She said she wasn’t really into romance and was looking for something with monsters. He sent her my book Monsterland, she read it over a weekend, and we had a call that Monday. She told Nick and me if we get the book published, she will get it into a producer’s hands to make into a film. Nick found a publisher called WordFire Press owned by Kevin J. Anderson, who has written all the Star Wars and Dune canon books. WordFire signed me to a two-book deal for Monsterland 1 & 2. After the deal was signed, my film agent did what she promised and got my book into the hands of a billion-dollar grossing producer who is now shopping my book to certain studios. In two years, I went from a self-published author to a published author with a literary agent, an entertainment attorney, a film agent, a two-book publishing deal, a publicist, and a producer who is interested in turning my book to a film. It’s been one wild ride, to say the least.

Is this version different?
A few things have changed, but not much. However, there are some changes. The script I submitted to my agent who is shopping it around to the studios now is NOTHING like the book.

What are you working on now?
LOTS of projects! I have 5 manuscripts completed including Monsterland 3. A few new screenplays I’m playing with. Exciting things on the horizon, so stay tuned.

It’s 3am…While most minds are in a blissful state of slumber, mine is wide awake conjuring and pondering endless thoughts. Eyes are fixated on the dark popcorn ceiling above and ears are soaking in blue tunes as my autopilot mind becomes overwhelmed with the past, future and every cherry topped dream in between.

Guest Post :

Anomaly

When you look up the definition of this uncommonly used word, it translates to something differing from the “normal” and quite honestly, that is the best and only way I could describe my life and even who I am.
It is a weirdly satisfying feeling when you have completely pulled the dark and uncomfortable thoughts from the storm inside of your brain. Conjuring up the idea to do so and the actual process of extraction from the brain to the laptop, however, is terrifying. The thought that one day the outside world would be introduced to the monsters in my head and even have an opinion about them, is well, kind of unfathomable.
Every molecule in my brain told me not to be so open, not to share this part of me. Let’s face it, while this world is beautiful in it’s 4k brillance, there are moments when a switch is flipped and the cold darkness rushes through. As tightly knit we are as a human race, we are also equally divided, especially these days. Smash Mouth had it right all of those years ago, “It’s the end of the world as we know it…”.
No matter how loudly my brain screamed at me to not enter this adventure, my heart screamed louder for me to jump and start typing (a megaphone always makes a profoud statement lol). So, with a long deep breath and one final doubtful thought I grabbed an iced coffee, my laptop, headphones and released the Gremlins in my head.
There were two main focuses when jumping down this rabbit hole..firstly, I wanted to be completely open with every thought that I decided to share. A “no holds bar”, even if it made every bone in my body uncomfortable, which it did lol. See, I have always believed that it is within the uncomfortable that we really learn and grow, unfiltered. We have all heard this before, but how true it is..”glow sticks can’t glow without darkness.”.
Secondly, I wanted Anomaly to read as though you and I are just two friends sitting in a coffee shop, getting lost in conversation and cold brew coffees with vanilla sweet cream. I wanted anyone who ended up coming across Anomaly to know that they’re not in any way alone, that while our battles may differ slightly or while the generations may span out, I know…I get it.
It is so important to continue the mental health conversation, it is so important to continue to shine that 80 watt bulb on the monsters of Anxiety, Depression and Suicide. This will never be a “one and done” convo, continuing the chat and spreading the awareness is what’s going to continue to lessen and hopefully end the stigma against mental health.
To those who fight these battles I say this to you…Never be ashamed..Never hide your marvelous self and Never be quiet about your mental health.
To the world, we all have a battle we are dealing with, they differ in type and size, but these battles are being fought. With this knowledge, we should all have a more understanding mind.
